Pre Care and Aftercare

  • The Prep: It all starts with a good canvas! The eyebrow area must be healthy, strong, non-sensitised and non-irritated. Here’s how to get your skin ready for the procedure:

Do not pick/tweeze/wax/perform electrolysis one week before the procedure

Do not tan or sunbathe two weeks prior to the service, or have a sunburned face

Do not have any resurfacing facials 2 weeks prior to the procedure

Avoid exercise, sweating and direct sun exposure the day of the procedure

Discontinue use of retinols/vitamin A/Steroid creams and active ingredients on the treatment area 2 weeks prior to your appointment.

Do not have botox 2 weeks prior to the procedure

Do not take Fish Oil or Vitamin E at least 3 days prior to the procedure (they are natural blood thinners)

Do not drink alcohol 24 – 48 hours before your tattoo

Do not consume coffee/tea or any ccaffiated drinks 24 hours before your procedure

Do not take an Aspirin or Ibuprofen for pain relief on the day of treatment (these also thin the blood)

Do wash your hair before your procedure as it is part of the aftercare not to get your brows wet afterwards

  • Remember, the outcome of your new brows is dependant on following the correct prep and aftercare. To enable them to heal to their full potential you must follow these instructions.

    THE EYEBROW TATTOO HEALING PROCESS

The healing process following an Eyebrow Tattoo procedure is one amazing Scientific journey. This eyebrow tattoo healing chart given at your appointment sums up what to expect in the days to come, sometimes less, other times, slightly more dramatic. This all depends on your skin type, sweat factor, skincare products used, and if the aftercare instructions are correctly followed.

Our Aftercare instructions have been studied, tried, tested and approved, and are found to give the best healed results for our clients. Cosmetic Tattoo procedures are expensive investments, and should be treated correctly through post care.

Amazing changes will take place, the healing process can take up to 8+ weeks for the final healed result to show, at which time, further improvement and refining can be added at the perfection visit.

THE 3 COMMON FREAK OUTS POST EYEBROW TATTOO

The 3 most common “freak-outs” a new client experiences following brow feathering, or other forms of eyebrow tattoo treatments are consistently:

My eyebrow tattoo is dark or thick

My eyebrow tattoos are itchy and flaking

I can’t see my eyebrow tattoo any more they are faded and patchy

The day of, and a couple of days following your eyebrow tattoo procedure, your brows may appear slightly thicker and darker to you. There are a number of factors which make them appear this way, mainly due to the build-up and drying process of the lymph nodes post procedure and the surface pigment oxidising. Rest assured both the thickness and darkness of your brow tattoos will subside in the coming days.

The fading, and loss of tattooed hair strokes during the healing process is not just common, it is expected. Don’t be alarmed, your tattoos are still there, beneath the transparent new skin forming following the procedure. They will appear once again from week 2 or a later part of your healing process. It takes a full 8 to 12 weeks for the colour to fully come through.

    EYEBROW AFTERCARE DIRECTIONS

Stay away from excessive alcoholic drinks for the next 24 hours if possible

•Keep your brows dry for 24-36hrs

•Blot with a tissue if there is any excess liquid on the day of treatment.

•After 24-36hrs use one pump of a mild cleanser (QV/Cetaphil), wet hands, gently massage into brows, wipe with damp cotton pad or non abrassive wipe and dry with tissue or air dry

•Apply rice size amount of aftercare ointment on brows with cotton tip.

•Repeat morning and night for 7-10 days

Day 1-7- NO makeup or skincare product directly on or around your eyebrow areas

Day 1-7 NO work out or activities that involve excessive sweating

Day 1-10 – NO hot showers or steam avoid heating the area for 7 days this includes sweating as this opens the pores and drains your pigment

Day 1-10 – NO skincare products above the cheekbones

Avoid any skincare product containing retinol, AHA, vitamins A & C

Day 1-10 – Sleep with a clean pillow case, on your back rather than stomach or sides

Avoid touching the eyebrow tattoos with unclean hands or at all

DO NOT pick or scratch your eyebrow tattoos at all.

If they get too dry or itchy, blot apply a rice grain sized of the healing cream

From day 10 and beyond, you can now wash your brows as normal and get them wet

See you in 6-8 weeks for your perfection visit!

  • Come to your appointment prepared!

The procedure should involve very minimal pin-point bleeding. Therefore, during your procedure you want to avoid any excessive bleeding, which can drastically effect your ability to numb and the overall results. Therefore DO not drink alcohol or caffeine the day you are to have your procedure. Do not take any blood thinning medications (unless prescribed by a doctor for medial reasons) one week before your appointment (aka: Aspirin, Fish Oil, Ibuprofen, etc)

No tanning/excessive sun exposure 2 weeks before procedure (and 2 weeks after).

No Lip Filler/treatments 4 weeks before procedure

Plan your procedure with your schedule/vacations/events! DO NOT schedule when you have an incoming event that conflicts with healing. You will need 5-7 days heal. Expect an additional “perfecting” touch-up 8 weeks after the first appointment.

Please eat before the procedure, since you want normal blood sugar levels for any tattooing procedure and you may find it uncomfortable to eat immediately after

You will want to start a lip scrub once a day for 3- 7 days before your procedure so that your lips are prepped and don’t have a rough texture, which will prevent proper pigment saturation and a poor healed result. Use the morning of your appointment. Do not over scrub to the point that you have raw or compromised skin.

You may buy a lip scrub from any local drug store or make a sugar lip scrub at home (google sugar lip scrub) in order to exfoliate off dead layers of skin.

Use a balm or moisturiser often on your lips in the days prior to the procedure to maintain smooth texture.

Drink minimum 2L water daily in the lead up to your treatment ideally 7days

    VERY IMPORTANT:

If you have a history of cold sores you’ll need to start taking an antiviral prescription (Valacyclovir, Denavir (penciclovir), Valtrex, Virex or acyclovir (Zovirax), the day BEFORE your proposed procedure and also after the procedure.

Cold sore outbreaks are often triggered by stress or trauma to the lips and skin. Therefore if you are a carrier, lip blush will likely cause an outbreak if you do not take an antiviral medication prior. Your appointment WILL be cancelled if you have had a history of cold sores and do not follow this instruction (with cancellation fees). This is because cold sores will affect the healing/results and can even lead to scarring. So please do not skip this step, you will be happy you didn’t and have better results.

If you are nervous, consider bringing headphones and music. Numbing will be used during the majority procedure.

These instructions and requirements are for your safety and are recommended for the best results possible. If you show up to your appointment/book your appointment without following any/all of the above requirements including pre care or you have any of the conditions indicated above, you will be turned away and charged a cancellation fee.

  • You may want to plan around work for the dark/swelling/scabbing stage of the healing (usually done within 3-4 days).

Please apply moisturiser (provided free at the appointment) often, do not let you lips dry out for the first 7-10 days.

Do not eat or drink (except water), for the first 3 hours following procedure. Do not drink hot beverages for the first 2-3 days (or use a straw, so that the drink isn’t hot on the lips). After eating rinse mouth with mouthwash for the first couple days.

DO NOT RUB lips or try to exfoliate dead/shedding skin in ANY WAY.

If the area starts to get itchy, this is normal, don’t itch the area. This can cause scars and poor healing.

NO exercising for first 24 hours.

Do not touch the newly tattooed areas with your uncleaned fingers. Wash your hands every time you apply the moisturiser.

Try and sleep on your back. Sleeping on your side or stomach could increase the risk of pulling off healing skin, causing pigment to come out with the scabs.

Do not pick or itch the flaking, scabbing skin. This could pull the pigment out and cause scarring (flaking and scabs are natural reactions and should fall off on their own COMPLETELY). Even small amounts of picking, or “helping” a scab fall off can drastically change how much fading occurs and cause a very patchy and undesirable result.

No sun/tanning beds for at least 2 weeks. Understand that any tanning/sun exposure will fade the pigment and possibly change its color over time, even after the healing is completed. Consider purchasing SPF lip balm and start using 7 days post procedure, to protect the lips and extend the best color possible.

You can use lip makeup/gloss on lips after 14 days.

No HOT showers, exercising, or saunas directly after the procedure. Shower pressure should not go directly on the tattooed area for 10-14 days. Wait 2 weeks to submerge face in a swimming pool/hot tub.

Color changes occur during the healing and are completely normal. During the healing you may also experience the colour disappearing and then coming back during the following 4 to 6 weeks. The final color is seen 4 to 6 weeks post.

Touch-ups happen between 4 to 8 weeks post appointment. Touch-ups are for any necessary areas and depth/finishing desired colour and the healing tends to be easier this time, but involves the same process.

  • For best results, please be sure to follow the below directions in preparation for your upcoming Eyeliner Tattoo treatment:

No alcohol or caffeine for 24 hours before the treatment

No eyelash extension on the day – please have them professionally removed at least 2 days before treatment

No skincare product containing retinal, AHA, vitamin A agents for 1-2 weeks before treatment

Stop taking fish oil tablets (if you do) the moment you schedule your eyebrow tattoo appointment or at least 3 days prior

No cosmetic injections around the eyes, temple or forehead areas for at least 2 weeks before treatment

NO heavy workout or excessive sweat 24 hours before treatment

  • The area on your eyelids and around your eyes may be swollen and feel tender within the first 48hours. Some may experience a little redness on the eyelids too, which generally will disappear within a few hours or so.

They will usually appear most puffy & swollen the morning after your treatment from laying flat. This should subside within the 48hrs but depending on each individual, sometimes less or longer.

It is extremely important that you remember not touch, scrub, scratch or pick at your eyes post eyeliner tattooing.

Fresh eyeliner tattoo will appear darker and thicker than the final healed results, which takes place at between 4-8 weeks time. This is due to a 3 main reasons, the slight post treatment swelling, the Anaesthetics used during the treatment, and the fact that all cosmetic tattoo will shrink in size and fade in colour during the healing process.

Day 1-2 – DO NOT touch your eyes under any circumstances

Day 1-7 – NO makeup directly on your eyeliner tattoos

Day 1-5 – Avoid work out or activities that involve excessive sweating

Day 1-7 – DO NOT directly wash your eyeliner, showers are fine but don’t make a point to wash them and always blot dry when wet

Ensure showers are not overly warm as this would open the pores and drain your pigments

Day 1-7 – NO skincare products on the eye areas

Avoid any skincare product containing retinal, AHA, vitamins A, C and E agents

Day 1-7 – Sleep with a clean pillow case, on your back rather than stomach or sides

Avoid touching the eye areas with unclean hands or at all

DO NOT pick, pull, scratch your eyeliner tattoos. Allow to flake and fall off naturally

If the eyeliner tattoos get too dry, stretched, or itchy, apply a rice grain sized of the healing cream
